US$120 is a lot of money. One could by 36 McDonald Value meals and have change to spare. It's insanity for a headphone cable.
Well, I wanted a cable that looked a little more indestructible than the original Super.Fi Pro 5 cables. After the 5th one going kaput (lost sound on one side again), I'd had enough. What what did it get me? The Transwarp L-plug cable.
Soundwise... hmm... I didn't expect a whole lot of difference, but boy, am I wrong.
- It's a lot more roomy. Everything is much more in your face. I don't know the technical names, but my first impression was how echoey everything sounded. With metal music that's a terrible thing cause all the distortion and tight guitar/bass becomes an ugly mess. John Petrucci's guitar in the Glass Prison sounds like bumble bees buzzing. I haven't figured out a way to save it with the EQ.
- For lighter, jazz/vocal music it's amazing. The voice becomes really detailed. Toe's Goodbye and Olivia Ong sounded great whilst I was sleeping on the train. Listening to Sukima this very moment is heavenly bliss.
The cable is really long, thick and stiff xD I think it needs to go round the back. It's also longer than the usual cables (140cm).
I need to test before I buy next time. I'm wondering if I should just stick with my cheapo Sony buds for metal.
